Hey Socialites, with the seasons changing and the long summer nights turning into brisk fall evenings I thought it would be good to do a little check-in to see how you’re doing with your journey to Painting your Purpose. This series really spoke to me and made me feel even closer to you all — my friends and sisters!
Transparency moment, when I started The Miss Society, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into … and to be all the way honest I still don’t. I’m meeting new people, putting myself out there more (which is extremely hard for me) and simply learning as I go. There have been times where I wanted to give up and say forget it … this isn’t for me. But, I know deep down it is — making my mark and finding my purpose will always be for me!
So, let’s get into this 90 day check-in with a quick recap of the four steps we talked about in the summer:
How are you doing with that research? Blowing it out of the water or just getting started? Either is fine. The fact that you’ve been thinking about it is what counts. I’ve found myself back at Step 1 of Painting my Purpose, because I’ve made a new set of goals for myself. The amazing part about painting your purpose is that your calling can come in different elements and at different seasons, which causes you to start the process over, learning new things and planning new ways to dominate your destiny.
My “Step 1 moment” came the other day while Dallas and I were taking a walk to the park. I was listening to The Wine Down Podcast (which has easily become one of my favs) and became so inspired. I came up with about ten 2020 goals. I put my notes in my phone with calendar markers on start and finish dates.
It wasn’t until today when I was going through everything and said to myself, “ Dana, why wait until the top of the year to start something I can be working on now?” This was me pushing myself “out of my head” and into a new goal. Why keep pushing it off like I did with this blog? lol … Another transparency moment: I kept procrastinating writing this until finally somebody stopped me dead in my tracks and said, “Dana you need to do this.” That somebody was right, because a part of my purpose is building and growing with you and a part of that growth is countability — checking in.
As we approach the busy holiday season and the end of the year, challenge yourself to check-in on your purpose and to check-in on those Socialites journeying with you. Check on those goals that you made at the start of this year and didn’t accomplish. Don’t beat yourself up, just go back to the drawing board and see what you could do more or differently to get the goal accomplished. Don’t be scared to ask for help, and don’t think because the people you follow appear to have it all together on instagram, because they don’t. More importantly don’t forget to celebrate yourself. As you continue on your journey remember it’s a marathon not a sprint. Let the marathon continue! (RIP Nipsey Hussel)
